woyww comments

Collage in my journal, love this colour palette...
For those that comment here  - an additional monologue:

I was directly and indirectly affected by IRA terrorism, it profoundly and separately affected the young lives of myself and my husband - we are forever changed: those hurt by the events in Manchester need to survive and not become living victims of horror, it's very very difficult to adjust but it is possible, we just have to work hard to find beauty in despair...all those that have helped provide immediate succour - they are wonderful- but it's when you wake in a cold sweat 30 years later and the horror is still fresh that you realise terrorism really does work no matter what anyone else says...the knack is not to be afraid of the terror = let it come let it pass....  Once you find peace in the face of horror you can continue to live to the full accepting the good and the bad in this world.  Try to make a difference everyday by giving love to strangers as well as your beloved and try to bring kindness to all...don't wait for a bomb to show your humanity. Don't let horror make you a ghost.

  2. I'm THRILLED that you have an alternate way to visit and leave comments. I saw you were back a few weeks ago, but couldn't let you know because my computer won't allow it.

I adore those ATCs. They are so YOU!

I was deeply touched by the wonderful sentiment and loving tribute you gave to Manchester. You are right that terror can live a long time after the immediate event. Happy 8th Anniversary from # 1.

  3. Hi Donna. Well written. How true that no matter what we face and go through - we can come through. Changed, saddened, strengthened - all those things and more.
Those ATCs are so different from any others I have seen this morning - well done. Happy 8th WOYWW anniversary.
    Take care. God bless.

  5. My lovely friend!
Thank you for an extra link for comments! I just can't get that other thing to work!
Am missing you but I follow all your activities on FB! I have been busy with Alan but he is well and feeling good now so I am back in crafty mode! I will be sending you a little crafty package but also an ATC - if you want to swap fine if not you will still get my ATC! :-)
My lovely friend you are getting a big hug and lots of love we are in dire need of it because there are bad people around who want to hate us and scare us but we won't let that happen!

  6. Oh Donna, I have just howled with laughter at your comment to my varifocal experience on facebook!!! In fact still am laughing, you have made my day.

Have to say my distance vision isn't too bad and to be quite frank I'm happy driving without glasses but now they say I need them "legally", although it's the same prescription as 2 years ago when I didn't, I obviously will be wearing my driving glasses to drive, and I keep them in the car.

I've been using reading glasses for 10 years now and have upstairs and downstairs ones and ones next to my bed which I suppose could be classed as in the "lady's chamber". (think nursery rhyme if you have lost me there) I pop them on a chain round my neck if I go out and peer over the top if required.

So as not to spoil the daily updates I will be going back to Boots on Friday and will be asking for an exchange to try out bifocals. My husband uses them and says it is the best compromise.

Failing getting on with them my next option will indeed be separate glasses and to get my £145 worth I'll be asking for TWO pairs of driving with one tinted as in sunglasses.

Oh YES I have a plan as my other glasses are bought from the internet and only cost less than £20 including delivery and usually arrive the following day after ordering.

Boots will not be getting away with this I can tell you. So it will probably be yet another week's wait for the bifocals but the experimentation will continue......

Thanks again for your reply, it was SO worth mentioning on WOYWW and if you send me your address I'l post you one of my ATCs as a thank you.

Oops nearly lost it then trying to comment on the other page and can't blame that on the glasses as I am having a day off VF today!!

  7. Great ATCs... very cute :)
Your words concerning Manchester are very moving - I too remember the IRA attack that decimated the arena in 96. May we ever be united, may we ever become stronger in the face of inhumanity and barbaric acts of such insanity.

  11. Hi there dear sweet friend, was very touched by your words and every true, we must rise above such low acts, sad indeed how many are affected by it.
Am glad we've an option to comment elsewhere as we get an option to read your extra piece. Also couldn't comment on disqus. Do you realise it's five years since we met in Manchester. Curoius, eh!
Well should be in bed again.
Night and happy WOYWW 8, lovely to have your friendship and ever so glad you are able to join back again with us.... hope the building block at your place soon finishes or progresses well with the summery days.

    1. Hi Vicki, My Husband is the son of an Irish Mother and an English military man, after raising two daughters on tour in the british army My MIL insisted her son be raised in one place and it would be Ireland... hence my husband grew up with British armed guards in constant attendance... my FIL was under constant death threat... I lived most my life in Derby England, I was on duty when they brought in a british soldier working at our local Army recruiting office he had been shot in the head by an IRA gunman ( balaclava'd and never found) I was twice responsible for evacuation under bomb threat ( never hurt thank God) I find it incredible that life ( to me so precious no matter how different you may be to me) means so little to a person who believes the way to change the world is through terror, i know the way you change the world is with tiny weeny selfless acts of unconditional love...the solder who was shot ( you can read about it it is a famous case) - his partner and He had a child but at the time the British army did nothing to support 'widowed' partners who had chosen to not marry ( in some ways this was as bad an injury as the original assault) ... she got things changed.. now all bereaved partners regardless of their civil/legal status are treated with respect... Very Brave Lady took on the army and won...My many years seeing the very best and very worst of the public has made me both marvel and despair with regard to humanity, we are as they say, both wonderful and yet terrible creatures... I do believe we need to find out what causes us to dehumanise others, it is the devaluation of life that enables cruelty...

  14. I didn't have acces to a computer last couple of days so I'm very, VERY late visiting desks and celebrating the 8th anniversary... anyway, here I am! Thank you for this additional monologue... what you say is so true! Also thanks for visiting my blog last week, it's so nice to be part of this lovely group of crafters. Hooray, hooray and on to another year of 'desking' and crafting! Hug from Holland, Marit #29
